Stillwater, OKLA. - United Way activities continue throughout the community and on the OSU campus, according to Terri Collier, United Way president. The thermometers show 20% has been turned in to the United Way office to date.
Oklahoma State University faculty and staff raise about 23% of the $740,000 campaign goal annually. They have turned in around $20,000 to date. The OSU Student Store in the Student Union is selling OSU United Way tee shirts. October 28 has been designated United Way Tee Shirt day. OSU employees are encouraged to wear their orange OSU United Way shirt.
Last week, the IT Software Services hosted their "Golf in the Office" at "Berber Trails" with the proceeds from fees to play the 9 hole course going to United Way. Prizes were given to the first, second and third place winners. Those will be announced next week! Several departments have activities going this week. The office of Administrations and Finance will hold their annual Silent Auction on Thursday, October 27 on the 3rd floor of Whitehurst Hall. The College of Business will hold a silent auction and sale on October 25-26.
Each year, the Human Environmental Sciences holds an auction, too. The Stillwater Finest Cards are on sale on campus with $5 from the sale of the card benefiting the United Way. Over 40 businesses and restaurants in town honor the card by giving discounts to card holders.
Karman Korner resale store donated the proceeds from one day's sales to United Way this week. Several hundred dollars were added to the campaign total, according to a report from Katherine Reudy, Karman Korner store manager. Karman Korner provides regular income to Judith Karman Hospice, a United Way agency.
Employee meetings were held this week at Stillwater Designs/Kicker, MerCruiser and at SpiritBank. Week before last, JC Penney employees wrapped up their campaign as did Lambert Construction. Lambert's reported an increase in giving over last year. Quebecor employees increased their contribution by $5,000.
A custom built "Play Place" was sold for several thousand dollars at the Chamber of Commerce Business Showcase last Saturday. The "Play Place" was a custom built, small version of a model home. Flintco built the house with contributions from several local builders. The awning was copper, and the shutters on the outside were complete with window boxes. Inside, the walls of the house were a "faux finish" with child size furniture consisting of a table and four chairs along with two red "faux leather" barrel chairs and a custom built bench with 4" foam padding with custom covers to match the furniture. The house was professionally wired and included matching lights on the outside of the house with a ceiling fan and light on the inside of the house. A music system completed the home.
This year's campaign chairs are Richard and Marti Dermer with Natalea Watkins assisting. The campaign is scheduled to wrap up mid-November. The locally produced video will be shown at 6:15 p.m. Monday on Cox Cable channel 23, just before the weekly City Commission meeting.
