What:
The Stillwater Area United Way established the Bennett Basore Award in 2002. The first recipient was the LIFE Adult Day Center. Following winners include: Mobile Meals, Mission of Hope, Stillwater Domestic Violence and The Stillwater Community Health Center.
Why:
To honor the late Bennett Basore, a former United Way Board member whose leadership in establishing the local UW accreditation procedure insures accountability to donors, proper utilization of funds and compliance with state, federal & United Way regulations
- To recognize the strength of local agencies who follow the accreditation policies.
- To bring attention to the values of United Way outside the campaign period.
- To recognize the value-added component of volunteers from the UW board to the boards of each individual agency to the volunteers at each agency.
When:
It is awarded annually to a local UW agency at the conclusion of the Allocation hearings.
How:
A plaque with Bennett Basore’s picture and tags for each winner will reside in the United Way office and the winning agency will receive a personalized plaque to hang in their office, along with a $1,000 stipend
- The agency plaque and check is presented to the winning agency at a meeting of their board of directors.
- The United Way Office issues a news release and a photo of the winning agency to include the agency director and volunteer board president as well as a UW Board representative.
- The story of the winning agency's accomplishments is incorporated into the annual local video.
- A representative of the winning agency makes a brief presentation at the Annual Meeting of the United Way Board of Directors to educate incoming board members and share best practices with other agencies.
